4 Trumpet Train Horn Kit, 150 dB, 10 L Tank

A train horn kit is an air system, not just a horn. This one pairs four trumpets with a 10 L (2.6 gal) tank and a 280 W 12 V compressor. The horn is rated at a maximum of 150 dB, and the pressure switch keeps the tank between 110 and 160 psi.

VEVOR Train Horns Kit 10 L overview

It runs on 12 V. The kit is designed for a vehicle or boat with a 12 V electrical system. Check the alternator and battery before adding a high-current accessory, and use the supplied fuse on the power lead.

What the tank size changes

The trumpets are the same four-horn design across the range. The tank is what changes the character of the blast.

  • 3 L: short, sharp blast; fast refill; lightest kit.
  • 6 L: about twice the air reserve, so a longer blast holds its note.
  • 10 L: the largest reserve and a higher 110 to 160 psi range, with a 280 W compressor to match.

The 10 L tank and higher 110 to 160 psi range give the most reserve air of the three kits, with a stronger compressor to refill it. This kit suits a large truck, crane, bus or marine installation where the horn has to carry across a yard.

How the air system works

The compressor fills the tank until the pressure switch reaches 160 psi, then stops. When pressure falls to 110 psi, the switch restarts the compressor. A gauge on the tank shows the live pressure, and the tank has a drain point for moisture.

Drain the tank regularly. Air carries water vapor, and condensation sitting in a steel tank is the main cause of early failure. Open the drain after a damp or cold run and let the tank empty.

Mounting the horns and compressor

  1. Choose a dry, sheltered place for the compressor, away from exhaust heat and road spray.
  2. Mount the horns facing forward with the openings slightly down, so water can run out.
  3. Use the rubber pads and brackets to isolate vibration. Tighten the mounts without crushing the trumpet bodies.
  4. Run the air tube with a gentle bend, away from sharp edges and moving suspension parts.
  5. Wire the compressor through the supplied fuse and relay, with a solid ground to the chassis.
  6. Test the system in open air before closing any panels. Keep your ears away from the trumpets.

Noise and road rules

150 dB is far above the level of a normal car horn. Use hearing protection when testing, and never point the horns at people or animals at close range. Train horns are restricted or prohibited for on-road use in some states and countries; check local rules before fitting one to a street-driven vehicle.

What is in the box

Four trumpets, the 10 L tank with compressor, air tube, horn mounting bracket, safety mounting bracket, rubber pads, fuse, PTFE tape, M6 bolts, nuts and washers, and a manual.

Ordering

One kit, wholesale pricing. The listed price is our wholesale rate for one complete kit. There is no minimum order quantity and no separate tier price, so one kit and several kits cost the same per kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How loud is the horn?

A: The rated maximum is 150 dB. That is much louder than a standard car horn, so use hearing protection when testing and keep the trumpets away from people at close range.

Q: What does the 110 to 160 psi range mean?

A: The pressure switch restarts the compressor at 110 psi and stops it at 160 psi. The tank refills automatically while the vehicle is running.

Q: Will it fit my vehicle?

A: It fits vehicles with a 12 V electrical system and enough room for the tank and horns. Measure the space before ordering; the 10 L kit needs the most room.

Q: Is the compressor included?

A: Yes. The kit includes a 280 W compressor, the 10 L tank, the four trumpets and the air line.

Q: Can I install it myself?

A: The kit is a bolt-on air system, but it needs a fused power feed, a relay, a ground and a dry mounting spot. If you are not comfortable with vehicle wiring, have it installed by a 12 V accessory shop.

Q: Does it come with a switch?

A: The pressure switch that controls the compressor is included and pre-mounted on the tank. The power switch and the horn button are not included; the installer supplies and wires them.

Q: Can I use it on the road?

A: Train horns are restricted or prohibited for on-road use in some states and countries. Check your local vehicle and noise rules before fitting one to a street-driven vehicle.

Q: How often should I drain the tank?

A: Drain it after damp or cold runs and at least once a month. Condensation inside a steel tank is the main cause of corrosion and valve problems.

Q: What is the difference between the 3 L, 6 L and 10 L kits?

A: The tank and compressor scale up. The 3 L kit is the compact option, the 6 L kit holds about twice the air, and the 10 L kit runs a higher 110 to 160 psi range with a 280 W compressor.
