Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is an airless paint sprayer?

A: An airless sprayer pushes paint through a hose and a small tip at high pressure, without an air compressor. This unit runs at up to 3000 psi from a 950W motor, and that pressure is what atomizes the paint into a fan you can lay on a wall.

Q: How does an airless paint sprayer work?

A: A piston pump pulls paint from the bucket and forces it down the 50 ft hose to the tip. The tip turns the pressurized stream into a fan, and the adjustable pressure control on this sprayer sets how much paint passes through each pass.

Q: Airless vs HVLP: which one should I get?

A: Airless wins on large, flat surfaces. It sprays unthinned latex at up to 3000 psi, covers walls and fences quickly, and is the right tool for a whole room or a house exterior. HVLP lays a finer, slower coat and is better for small parts and thin finishes.

Q: How do you use an airless paint sprayer?

A: Flush the pump, fill a bucket, drop in the suction tube, and set the pressure, then practice on cardboard before you touch a wall. Work in overlapping passes and keep the gun about 12 in from the surface on large interior and exterior projects on walls, fences, and furniture.

Q: How do you clean an airless paint sprayer?

A: Recirculate clean water or solvent through the pump, hose, and gun until it runs clear, then flush the tip and wipe the body. The detachable pump and included cleaning brush on this model make the job quick, and flushing right after a session is what stops clogs.

Q: What size airless tip should I use?

A: Airless tip numbers carry two facts. The first two digits give the fan width in inches at a 12 in distance divided by ten, so a 515 tip lays a 10 in fan, and the last digit is the orifice in thousandths of an inch, so 5 means 0.015 in. Use 515 or 517 for latex on walls, 415 or 417 for thinner coatings and stains, 315 for trim and cabinets where you want a narrow fan, and 519 or 521 for heavy body coatings.

Q: Can this sprayer handle latex paint and a whole house?

A: Yes. Latex and other common wall paints spray without thinning at 3000 psi, and the 50 ft hose plus a steady not less than 2.0 LPM flow rate keep a house exterior or a full interior moving. The manufacturer rates it for 400 gallons a year, which covers regular painting work rather than a one-off job.

Q: What comes with the cart version of this sprayer?

A: The RP8628 Plus ships with the 950W sprayer on a rolling cart, a 50 ft high-pressure hose, the airless spray gun, and a cleaning brush. That combination suits exterior jobs where the machine has to follow you around the building.
